HHS IB Parents:
Parents can Volunteer to be an AP Proctor!
The deadline to sign up and submit a SERVE application
is April 11th, so the proctor schedule can be finalized.
We need your help! We will be administering 1,700 AP exams
this year to IB and traditional students. Sometimes it is
difficult to allocate enough teachers to proctor each exam.
Parents can assist with monitoring students during one or more
exams. If you are interested, follow the instructions below:
1. Go to http://www.sdhc.k12.fl.us/approctor to sign up online. Click on Proctor Information to read about rules and expectations.
Family Rule: Parents cannot proctor an exam their child or an immediate household member is scheduled to take (anywhere in the district or nation).
SERVE Application: The website will direct you to fill out a SERVE Volunteer application. In order to proctor, or volunteer at a school, a SERVE application must be on file. This can be submitted to the main office or IB office.
Review the HHS Test Calendar: Signing up to proctor a test is a big commitment. Make sure are certain about proctoring prior to signing up. The planning process for AP is cumbersome, and changes to proctoring makes things challenging.
Thank you for your assistance!

Athena Dicus, M.Ed.

Attention Juniors and Seniors taking Biology II(SL&HL) Biology III(SL&HL)
An Important Opportunity
We have an opportunity to improve student performance for the Biology
IB Exam. For the past few years King High School has utilized a retired
teacher to tutor junior and senior biology students. This opportunity
is free of charge to parents. I am strongly encouraging biology students
to attend these tutoring sessions. The first session will be held at
King High School on Tuesday, January 24th, 2012 from 3:15-5:15pm. The
tutoring sessions will be once a week for the first 2 weeks and then
they will be held twice a week until IB Exams. It is crucial that
we (HHSIB) have a good turn-out so that tutoring session locations
will rotate between HHS and King. Please email me at trisha.fitzgerald@sdhc.k12.fl.us
if you (your student) will be attending so that we will reserve your place. It is first come,

IB Ready for the SAT
SAT Online for IB Students
As part of our ongoing commitment to prepare students for the SAT, we have
partnered with the College Board— the test maker—to provide students with The
Official SAT Online Course™. It's the only online course with official practice
tests just like the ones students will see on test day. The Official SAT Online
Course features:
10 Official practice tests and questions with answer explanations
Interactive instruction
Practice Quizzes and Lessons
Personalized score reports
Sample essay questions with student responses
Students in 10th and 11th grade have been given access codes to register
for SAT Online. This task must be completed by Friday, November 18th. They
will have the opportunity to do the SAT Online test on their own time and can
access the full SAT tests, quizzes, and lessons from their home computers or
at school in the media center or the success center. Students can also receive
a pass during JA to practice at school. Their participation in the program
will not only be incorporated as grades for select classes, but it will also
ensure higher scores on the official SAT. Students must follow the Instructions

HHS IB is proud to recognize Logan Lentini for Outstanding Service in the Community!
Creating unique and meaningful service initiatives is what
we encourage students in the IB Program to do. Students can
not only make a difference in the community, but also learn
significant leadership skills and show a strong sense of
values and character.
Colleges and scholarship programs look for these characteristics
in students. Logan Lentini coordinated the "Arthritis Foundation's Tampa
Family Connect Day" for families with children who have Juvenile
Arthritis. Logan did this as part of his IB community service
hours because his brother has systemic JA.
Read about his accomplishment on the Arthritis Foundation website.
Go to: http://www.arthritis.org/chapters/florida/juvenile-arthritis.php.
Scroll down to "JA Family Connect Day – Tampa, Oct 29, 2011 – A Fun
